PLAYGROUND SAFETY, L.L.C. will work with owners, operators and/or risk managers to assure
a successful playground safety program by:
Audit of New Playgrounds
Playground Safety Audit is a comprehensive document
that will assist you in indentifying a wide range of playground
hazards based on the C.P.S.C. Handbook for Public Playground Safety
and the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) F1487-98.
Once completed, this audit can be used in many ways to reduce safety
concerns and help develop long-term strategies.
Low Frequency
Inspections (periodic)
Low Frequency Inspections should be conducted on a scheduled basis
to evaluate the structures wear concerns at each site. Consideration
for the existing condition of the equipment, environmental conditions,
age, use factor and vandalism will be combined on one inspection
form.
Inservicing
of Personnel and Community
A block of instruction can be provided to point out the twelve
leading causes of injury on playground equipment. The inservice
would consist of a lecture, film, handouts, and question and answer
time.

PLAYGROUND SAFETY, L.L.C. is dedicated
to assist owners, operators and/or risk managers to assure a successful
playground safety program. TRK PLAYGROUND SAFETY, L.L.C. will identify
playground safety hazards established by the National Playground
Safety Institute (NPSI), U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
(CPSC), American Society of Testing and Material (ASTM), and National
Program for Playground Safety (NPPS). These guidelines were developed
to address the reasons listed below:
-
Over 200,000 children annually across America are rushed to emergency
rooms as a result of injury sustained in their playgrounds.
Worse yet, the average of 17 children die each year from
a playground injury.
- In
California in 2001, 1,028 children were hospitalized due
to playground injuries.
The cost of these hospitalizations was close to $7.5 million.
|
 |
- In California in 2001, six children
died due to playground injuries.
- Reasons for injuries:
- 70% Lack of adequate protective
surface material
- 41% Swings and other play
equipment too close together
- 47% Head entrapment hazards
- 51% Had unacceptable dangerous
equipment

Playground
Safety Regulations is the law regarding children's playgrounds.
As of January 1, 2000, California legislation SB 2733 and AB 1055
requires that all playground equipment areas accessible to the public
(such as at schools, in parks or childcare/ commercial facilities)
be audited/inspected for safety. The legislation contains a list
of required areas in its introduction. A copy of the legislation,
made available by the State of California, can be obtained from
Barclays West Law Publishers (800/888-3600). Also available for
purchase is a Statement of Reasons (rationale) from the Department
of Health Services, Office of Regulations: regulation@dhs.ca.gov
Please feel free to contact me
